Beginning at 8:00 am CT on Wednesday, Dec. 9, SABCS registrants will have access to a variety of special on-demand programming, including this year’s two must-watch Plenary Lectures which will be presented by Elizabeth A. Mittendorf, MD, PhD, and Norman E. “Ned” Sharpless, MD.

Dr. Elizabeth Mittendorf is the Robert and Karen Hale Distinguished Chair in Surgical Oncology and Associate Chair for Research in the Department of Surgery at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She is also the Director of the Breast lmmuno-Oncology program and Co-Director of the Breast Cancer Clinical Research Program at the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center. She will present “Local Regional Management Following Neoadjuvant Therapy: Minding the Knowledge Gaps.” Her presentation is sponsored by SABCS and the Society for Surgical Oncology.

Dr. Ned Sharpless was officially sworn in as the 15th director of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) on October 17, 2017. Prior to his appointment, Dr. Sharpless served as the director of the University of North Carolina (UNC) Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, a position he held since January 2014. He also served as Acting Commissioner for Food and Drugs at the U.S. Food & Drug Administration for seven months in 2019, before returning to the NCI Directorship. He will present “Advancing Cancer Research During Challenging Times.”
