Presentation: Ovarian Suppression: Who, When, Why, and for How Long

Prudence Francis, MD
Clinical Co-Lead Breast Medical Oncology,
Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre
What is your presentation about?
My presentation will be trying to guide clinicians to optimize the use of ovarian suppression for better premenopausal breast cancer outcomes and reduce the risks of premature menopause in women who will not benefit from it.
How do you hope your presentation will impact breast cancer research, care, or advocacy?
I hope my presentation will help guide clinicians with the various conundrums and nuances that arise when caring for young patients with breast cancer in practice. I hope that the audience will take home some fresh perspectives and new information on this topic,
How did you get involved in this particular area of breast cancer research, care, or advocacy?
Learning about the poorer prognosis of young women with estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer in clinical trials from an earlier era, inspired me to try to improve this in the future. Developing new trials that could address unanswered questions and improve outcomes for young patients became a focus which fortunately was supported by many collaborators.
